RATIONALE FOR COLLEGE

AND WORKFORCE READINESS

College and Workforce Readiness is based on the following principles:

  1. To be successful in the twenty-first century all students graduating from high school must have an education beyond high school before entering the work force.
  2. Based on recent studies, the academic and personal skills required to enter the workforce are the same skills necessary to be successful in post-secondary education or college.
  3. Students are preparing to enter three levels of post-secondary education based on their admissions selectivity--colleges and programs with open enrollments; colleges with selective admissions; and colleges and universities with highly selective admissions.

  4. Counseling of students for their post-secondary lives must be a total effort of the school and community involving students, parents, teachers, counselors, and principals.
